Boston’s calendar is full of various sporting events, from the basketball team Celtics to the hockey team Bruins and football team New England Patriots to the baseball team Red Sox. With a visit to Fenway Park, TD Garden, or Gillette for a game, the residents of Boston get to show their support to the Boston teams.
Founded in 1995, the New England Revolution is an American professional soccer club based in the Greater Boston area that competes in major league soccer in the Eastern Conference of the league.
Boston hosts the Boston Marathon every year with pride and joy. This is an exciting event for not just the participating runners, but for the spectators who enthusiastically show their support for the event. It seems like the whole city of Boston springs to life with the annual Boston Marathon. It is a highly anticipated tradition with fun activities for all ages.
When I was visiting Boston, I saw walkers everywhere I went in the city. According to the U.S. Census Bureau data in 2012, more than 15% of Bostonians walked to work. It is the highest percentage among the major U.S. cities. This is very inspiring.
Colored lights on top of the old John Hancock Tower tell Bostonians the daily weather forecast. The options are solid blue, meaning it’s a clear day; flashing blue, signifying a cloudy day or clouds are coming; solid red, saying there is rain coming; and flashing red, meaning snow is coming. In the summer, flashing red means the Red Sox game is rained out.
Fenway Park is another American icon found in Boston. Its Green Monster is so renowned. The Red Sox have actually patented the shade “Fenway Green.”
Boston is a city full of history, most of which we have already learned about in geography and history classes. Its heart will always beat from the historic center of the nation. This great city has left lasting impressions on me. After my vacation in Boston, I feel relaxed, rested, mentally recharged after the trip. The excitement of seeing all of the historic landmarks in Boston made every moment of that trip sparkle.
Besides all of the significant historical sites, major art festivals, dynamic sporting events, wonderful concerts, fine restaurants, and trendy shops the city of Boston has to offer, the vibrancy of big city makes Boston the premiere place to visit at any time of the year.
After my second trip to Boston, I am convinced that taking time to visit other places is truly important. Sometimes we can be fixated on one version of how we want our life to be. But often, we may be eliminating possibilities of lots of different things that can bring us growth.
