American Spirit: Boston (4)

Wendy Yeh

The city that is an icon of the American Spirit is named after a town in England. Many of Boston’s early settlers were from Boston, England, and decided to keep the name.
With its amazing history and dramatic legends, there are numerous patriotic landmarks in Boston. The gold leaf dome of the State House is impressive.
Riding the Old Town Trolley is a wonderful way to design my own sightseeing tour. With the convenience to hop on and hop off at any one of seven locations, I began my walking tour with a visit to the Boston Tea Party Museum.
Then, I continued my sightseeing tour to Boston’s North End. This is the home to Little Italy, one of the oldest Italian neighborhoods in America. I also had the pleasure to visit some of Boston’s most famous landmarks, including the USS Constitution and the Bunker Hill Monument.
Honor the history of America’s beloved presidents on a tour that celebrates their legacy and visits two of America’s national treasures: John F. Kennedy Library and John Adams National Park. I even had an opportunity to stand in a re-creation of the Oval Office.
Boston’s Chinatown is a compact area near the Theater District. This is packed with gift and antiques shops, and food markets, and restaurants. Boston’s colorful Chinatown is guarded at its eastern gateway, diagonally across Atlantic Avenue from south Station, by a looping arch and an ornate pair of stone lions. Boston’s Chinatown is not very large but is packed with Asian restaurants and exotic stores that draw thousands of tourists and locals daily.
With its Federal-style row houses, gas lit streets, and brick sidewalks, the lovely Beacon Hill is a National Historic Landmark.
I took a glimpse at the Bull & Finch Pub with much curiosity. I read in an entertainment magazine that it was the inspiration for the popular television series “Cheers.”
When I was traveling, I felt like I have all the time to myself. I can have time to ponder what force keeps the stars shining bright, the mountains high and still, and the rivers roaring. I imagine that my life have some meaning when placed beside the stars, mountains, and rivers. To me, there are a thousand meanings in every scenery. I really enjoyed visiting Boston again. I sensed the American Spirit in every corner I have visited in the city of Boston.
Time can be sneaky. Sometimes I feel that I no longer get twelve months out of the years. It gradually cuts to eleven, or ten, or even nine. I swear! There are so many exciting new places to visit. I know very well that time does not slow down and wait for me to catch up. Therefore, I want to start planning my next trip as soon as I get home from my Boston trip.
