成語：如坐針氈（RU ZUO ZHEN ZHAN）:like sitting on pins and needles; as if sitting on a spiked rug; to be in an extremely uncomfortable position; to be kept on the anxious seat; to be on nettles; feel extremely uneasy; like a cat on hot bricks; like to sit on a cushion of needles—ill at ease; sit on thorns; sit on a rug full of needles.
出處：晉書，杜錫傳。
釋義：形容一個人受人壓迫，不敢抗辯，有苦說不出的尷尬情況。
故事：晉朝，有個名杜錫的人，是杜預的兒子。杜預是有名的“春秋左傳集解”作者，曾為武帝統一中國有功。杜錫自幼接受良好的教育及高貴家庭的培養，所以年輕時就以學問淵博著名。最初被長沙王邀請做文學侍從。以後經過幾次升遷，最後被調去當太子舍人，為愍懷太子服務。愍懷太子是個紈絝子弟型的人，行為乖張。杜錫日日跟著他工作，對太子的這種行為很不同意，便常常向太子勸告，希望他能改正偏差的行為。杜錫的言辭非常忠實懇切，但是，太子不喜歡聽，覺得討厭，嫌他多管閒事。這個乖離的太子竟然派人悄悄地放很多針在杜錫的坐墊裡想刺杜錫的屁股。當杜錫坐在坐墊上時，屁股被針刺得疼痛流血。過了幾天，愍懷太子問杜錫，“前幾天你做了什麼事？”杜錫答，“我喝醉了酒，什麼事都不記得了。”可是，太子一定要問到底，還說，“你喜歡責備人，為什麼自己也做錯事呢？”杜錫被問得狼狽不堪，哭笑不得。
用法：張三小時候放牛，把東家的小牛弄丟了；回到家裡，等東家回來，心裡緊張，“如坐針氈”。
故事英譯：During the period of Kingdom Jin, there was a man named Do Xi, the son of Do Yu who was the author of the book “ the Collective Notes of Zuo’s Biography” and the meritorious key official who had helped King Wu of Han to build the empire of East Han. Do Xi had got excellent education and cultivated in a noble family since his childhood, so he was well-known as a profound erudite scholar in his youth age. At first, he was invited by the king of Chang Sha to be the king’s literary retinue. Then he was promoted several times and finally he had been appointed as the crowned prince’s General Secretary, serving for the Crowned Prince Min Huai. Crowned Prince Min Huai was a good-for-nothing young man from an emperor’s family and had a queer behavior. Do Xi worked beside him day by day and disagreed with such a situation of the prince and often exhorted him, hoping that he might correct his perverted behavior. Do Xi’s words were very honest and earnest, but the crowned prince disliked to listen, felt upset, and thought that Do Xi was putting his fingers into others’ pie. The odd crowned prince then sent his retinue to put stealthily many needles into Do Xi’s sitting cushion wanting to stick Do Xi’s buttocks. When Do Xi sat on his cushion, his buttocks were hurt and bleeding. Several days later, Crowned Prince Min Huai asked Do xi, “What did you do days ago?” Do Xi answered,” I was drunk, I remembered nothing.” But the prince asked constantly to the detailed question to the extreme, and added to say, “You prefer to blame others being made mistakes, but why you also made mistakes?” Do Xi was reproached in such an awkward predicament, he didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
